Re: I'm buying a laptop....
what do you need your laptop for? i would recommend toshiba for its stability. fujitsu for the portability (i'm currently using one), lenovo's not bad too, maybe can try other brands like dell, acer, ibm etc. and of course, if you're into design do get a macbook, it's worth it.

Re: I'm buying a laptop....
Me myself is also shopping for a lappy...
Using Acer in my office. IMO, dun think the quality is that good.
My DVD rom eject button is faulty after 2 mths.
after looking around, only narrowed down to 2 brands now.
ASUS and sony.
IMO, the rest of the other brands are either bulky or expensive.
Asus is quite value for money (specs/dollar)
Sony is design lah. sony is expensive, but there are some lower range models too (sub $2K models)

Re: I'm buying a laptop....
Don't get sony, very rip off on the prices ): pay like $300 more for the brand...
Yeah, i think Asus is good, like the design and the performance of their computers. Also supposed to be quite stable one so thats good.
If you're looking for a laptop for like work and stuff i think lenovo/IBM are both good brands to check out, i really like the way they look and feel, its very good for working.
Wouldn't recommend buying Compaq/HP though. This laptop i have currently giving me a lot of issues, the charger wire can break one... then i must repair myself. Then the DVD drive also not installed properly. The laptop also diam diam overheat one. so it sucks.
But important is that you go see the laptop play around, use the touch pad. If possible put on your lap, see whether very hot or not. See if you like the keyboard and the touchpad. All these things you may not think of but when later on you use it, you might regret getting a particular model. Also check for the extent of the warranty and do some research on the internet about the particular model you want to buy before buying, just google it can liao actually.

Re: I'm buying a laptop....
i was planning to buy sony leh... aiyo, you all say until the sony like very lousy.... i know buying sony is paying more for the brand....but i kinda like the design for sony
also, asus, a lot ppl recommend it to me already, but so far i don't see any model that i quite like, the look of asus isn't very nice
fujitsu, last time when i went to comex, didn't see many of fujitsu model, and it's super expensive... all a bit nicer one all is like 3k and above.
still, i'm waiting for next coming pc show... also, i'm buying it for study and normal working... also, so that i don't have to wait until my sis finish using com then i can play...
lastly, last time during comex, i tried asus and sony's webcam, sony is not so laggy but asus is really like 2seconds lagged... that's why i'm thinking of buying sony...yet so many ppl recommend asus, i guess i have to reconsider again...

Re: I'm buying a laptop....
Since its for work and studying, I would recommend IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad. $1800 can get you a ThinkPad with decent spec. Battery can last 4 hrs - 6hrs depending on 6 cell or 8 cell battery. oya...IBM keyboard "no horse run" de.

Re: I'm buying a laptop....
macbook everybody also say nice. for me sch gave us a very good offer, save $1k on my fujitsu laptop. sony is overhyped IMHO. toshiba is a solid brand so i would recommend that.

Re: I'm buying a laptop....
Yeah, fujitsu is quite okay lah, the design not say super super nice but its a good reliable laptop that supposedly has great aftersales service, not that you would want to have to use it but just in case yeah....
